About the Behavior & Points Tracker

Most behavior point systems live and die by how fast you can update them mid-lesson. This tracker is built around that constraint: type in names or table-group labels once, then tap large plus or minus buttons to adjust totals without breaking stride on whatever you're teaching.

It works the same way whether you're running an individual PBIS-style point system or a table-group competition — the tool doesn't care if 'Maya' or 'Table 3' is in the name field, the mechanic underneath is identical.

How to use it in your classroom

  1. Type one name per line in the box — student names, table or group labels, or team names — then click Add to turn them into tracked entries.
  2. Use the +1 and −1 buttons for normal adjustments, or the +5 and −5 buttons when you want to move a total faster, like a bonus for a whole table staying on task.
  3. Entries are sorted by current total automatically, so the leaderboard order updates itself as points change.
  4. Click the ✕ on a card to remove an entry you added by mistake or no longer need.
  5. When you want to start fresh — a new class period, a new day — click Reset all, then confirm. This zeroes every total but keeps the names.

Tips from the classroom

  • For a table-group point system, add one entry per table ('Table 1,' 'Table 2,' etc.) instead of one per student — it's the same tool, just coarser-grained, and it's a lot faster to manage during a lesson than tracking 25 individuals.
  • Use the −5 button sparingly and visibly — for most behavior systems, frequent small +1s for the behaviors you want to see work better than big penalties for the ones you don't.
  • This tracker does not save anything anywhere. If you refresh the page, switch tabs away and the browser reloads it, or close the window, every name and total is gone. Add your roster fresh each time you open it, and don't rely on it to hold scores across class periods or days.
  • If you run the same table-group competition every day, keep your list of group names somewhere you can paste back in quickly (a note, a doc) since the tool itself won't remember them.

Frequently asked questions

Does this save points between classes or after I refresh the page?

No. Everything lives in your browser's memory for that page load only — there's no account, no database, and no local storage. Refreshing, navigating away, or closing the tab resets it completely. Treat it as a per-lesson or per-day tool, not a long-term gradebook.

Can I use this for table groups instead of individual students?

Yes. The tool doesn't distinguish between a student and a group — it just tracks whatever label you type and a point total. Add 'Table 1,' 'Table 2,' and so on instead of individual names and it works exactly the same way.

Can totals go negative?

Yes, if you use the minus buttons enough on one entry. There's no floor at zero, since some behavior systems intentionally let a total dip below zero as a visible consequence.

Why is Reset all a two-step process?

Reset all zeroes every entry's points at once, which is hard to undo mid-class. The confirm step exists so an accidental tap during a busy lesson doesn't wipe a whole day's tracking.
