Hooded Vulture

Necrosyrtes monachus

A small African vulture with a bare pink face and a downy "hood" that cleans up carrion and is now critically endangered.

About the Hooded Vulture

Hooded vultures weigh only 3.3 to 5.7 pounds but have wings up to 6.5 feet across. They are mostly brown with a naked pink head, a cream-colored downy hood and a slender hooked bill. They live across sub-Saharan Africa in grasslands, savannas, forest edges, deserts, coasts and even cities, and need tall trees for nesting.[1]
