About the Chilean Flamingo
Chilean flamingos live from central Peru to Tierra del Fuego in Argentina, mostly high above the tree line on salt flats and marshy wetlands, as high as 4,000 meters. They can stand over 3 feet tall but usually weigh less than 5 pounds. To eat, they turn their heads upside down and sweep their bills through the water, straining out tiny food. Beta carotene in their food turns them pink.[1]
